Green algae and grime on vinyl siding is one of those things that sneaks up on you. It starts subtle - a little discoloration near the bottom courses, some streaking along the seams - and before long the whole exterior looks tired and neglected. That's exactly what we were dealing with on this Montpelier home.

The lower sections of the siding had heavy green buildup and dirt accumulation right at the foundation line. Spider webs were woven into the corners and along the trim. The upper sections near the roofline had dark streaking working its way down the panels. This kind of buildup isn't just a cosmetic issue. Left alone, algae and organic growth can hold moisture against the siding and speed up deterioration over time.

This is where soft washing does something pressure washing simply can't. Instead of blasting the surface with high pressure - which can crack vinyl, force water behind panels, and strip caulking - soft washing uses low pressure combined with the right cleaning solution to break down and kill the organic growth at the source. It lifts the grime without putting any stress on the siding itself.

The difference on this home was significant. The panels went from a dull, streaked surface with visible green patches and cobwebs to clean, bright vinyl that actually looks like the home has been well cared for. That kind of result holds up longer too, because the biological growth isn't just removed - it's treated.

If your siding is showing the same signs - green patches near the base, dark streaks running down from the roofline, or webs caked into every corner - a proper soft wash is the right call. It's one of the most straightforward ways to protect your home's exterior and keep it looking sharp year after year.
