This one had a few layers of neglect going on. The Trex deck was covered in grime, pine needles packed into every gap, and that dull, faded look that happens when a composite surface just hasn't been touched in a while. The steps and the main deck surface were both in rough shape - nothing that good deck cleaning couldn't handle, but definitely overdue.
Here's what a lot of homeowners don't realize about composite decking like Trex - it still gets dirty. Algae, mildew, and embedded debris build up just like they do on wood. The difference is that composite doesn't rot, but it can get slippery and look worn fast if it isn't cleaned properly. We use a process that's safe for the material and actually pulls that buildup out of the grain without damaging the surface.
The results speak for themselves. That rich, warm brown tone came right back once the grime was off. The steps cleaned up just as well as the main deck - clean lines, no streaking, no residue left behind. We also knocked out two full house washes on this same trip, so the whole property got the attention it needed in one visit.
The second property had a painted wood deck with some serious algae staining - green growth across the boards and heavy buildup on the railing fascia. After the wash, that surface came out clean and even, with the gray paint color showing through properly again. It's one of those jobs where the before and after couldn't look more different. Wash season is fully underway, and these East Montpelier homes are a solid example of what we've been out doing.
